During this fascinating, hands-on workshop you will be making your own Zoetrope. This is an early form of animation technology, made up of a cylinder with vertical slits in the sides to look through and watch your image come to life as it spins around. Think galloping horses, diving champions, dancers. Like a flick book but with the elegance and charm of an old style film reel.
The workshop will be led by visual artist-educator Monica-Shanta who particularly loves the geometry of circles, spirals and ‘mandalas’, which are at the heart of natural forms and structures, from shells to galaxies, and are a recurring theme in her work. She mixes mediums and processes to suit her ideas, creating installations, images and objects. Throughout her work she aims to make visible the magic of life within the ‘ordinary’, inter-weaving inspiration and influence from a breadth of Western and Asian cultural traditions.
The workshop is suitable for all age groups, adults and children over the age of 7.
