Strandline: Benchmark is the culmination of a co-creative project in Paignton, with local people sharing and gathering stories of everyday heritage from an area of land between Winner Street (which used to be the sea road) and where the tide reaches today.
The group present an exhibition of objects, maps and stories that reveal hidden stories from across this site, including a Talking Bench installation which will take you on an audio journey across the site without having to leave your seat in the Projection Room!
The Talking Bench is available on a drop in basis and you may need to wait if the bench is in use during your visit. We recommend allowing 45 mins for your visit to engage fully with the exhibition.
The Strandline team would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the people and organisations who enabled us to go on this journey together.
Special thanks to Paignton Community Shed, Hyperspace Café, Paignton Heritage Society, MAKE Southwest, Artizan Gallery, Kevin Cowell and Print2Wall, Nature Nook Pet Shop, Glo Torbay, Paignton Library, Paignton Picture House, and Historic England.
Strandline is funded by Historic England’s Everyday Heritage grant programme, celebrating working class histories.
