White Shadows

  • The Projection Room 11 Torbay Road Paignton, England, TQ4 6AA United Kingdom (map)

An exhibition of Paignton seaweed reflected on silk hangings using natural cyanotype photography by artist Anna Goodchild. Shown alongside words and poems inspired by the beach from the Wide Open creative writing group.

Open at The Projection Room:

  • 10am - 4pm on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th August

  • 10am - 2pm on Monday 26th, Wednesday 28th, Thursday 29th August

About the work:

White Shadows is part of Anna's MA Fine Art Year 2 exploration of seaweeds. The long cyanotype drapes show the actual size of the seaweeds found on Goodrington beach after a storm at sea. Through photography, cyanotypes, poetry and printmaking, this work explores forms and interactions with ocean algae, reflecting on the effects of climate change on algal diversity.

About Anna:

After 40 years teaching modern languages, Anna began to explore creative expression through photography, poetry, and later, printmaking. She studied her MA in the history of 20th Century art, architecture and design at Falmouth in 2004, reading theories that helped direct her thinking, and experimentation followed. Anna believes that our part in climate change affects all our systems and that we can undo any harm, provided there is awareness and a will to change.
