This May the first Wide Open artist is residence has been visual artist Laura Segan. You are invited to come and see the vibrant new art work that Laura has made using foraged plant materials found in Paignton.
The theme for May’s residency was Nature in Paignton, and during her time at The Liberal Club Laura has explored the town’s natural spaces and places to create new artwork influenced by it. She’s made natural inks and dyes from foraged plant materials for weaving and textile work, and experimented with plant based analogue photography to create pinhole photographs of Paignton using plants to develop the images.
Laura Segan is a visual artist working primarily in textiles and photography. Her artwork focuses on the connection between mental health and creativity and the exploration of the traditional crafts as modern fine art. Her work carries stories around connection with nature, exploration of self, mental health, creativity and life stories. Laura received her BA in Fine Art Photography from Camberwell College of Art and Design in 2003 and more recently, her MA in Art Psychotherapy from the University of South Wales.
Drop in, pop in, come along to meet Laura and see what she's created during her residency.
