Lyndon Forster - Hand Pan

  • The Projection Room 11 Torbay Road Paignton, England, TQ4 6AA United Kingdom (map)

A great opportunity to hear Lyndon Forster playing the hand-pan at The Projection Room. Lyndon spent the first half of his life living and traveling in several African countries. He spent a decade during his 20s studying West African percussion with Senegalese Master drummer Cheikh Diop and playing with various bands and drum and dance groups. Ten years ago, he began playing the handpan, which is now his main instrument. He spent 2 years working with PanAmor Handpans in Exeter, helping to build these unusual instruments and had a hand in building most of the ones that he performs with.

Lyndon also produces ambient electronic music under the name 'Phorl'. He has had his music played on BBC Introducing in the South West, BBC Radio 3, and BBC Sounds. He has performed with numerous bands, as a duo with his wife Laura, and as a solo musician. Recently, he had the honor of performing alongside five internationally renowned musicians, led by the tabla virtuoso Pandit Sanju Sahai, as part of Thrive Festival 2023 in the Great Hall at Dartington. He regularly performs, runs percussion and handpan workshops and retreats through the Social Enterprise Company that he runs with his wife, 'We Need Music CIC'.

No need to book, just turn up.

The Projection Room is a new cultural space on Torbay Road made possible by Paignton Picture House Trust - a space to find out more about the restoration of the magnificent Paignton Picture House, their fundraising appeal, creative and cultural activities and more. This welcoming space is wheelchair accessible, with toilet facilities on site.
