Sarah Wise de Jong is a British-Dutch visual designer with a passion for photography and publishing. Her degree in Illustration from Willem do Kooning Academy in Rotterdam led her into photojournalism and book design. She uses a mix of analogue and digital elements in her work that includes illustration, film, photography, collage and sometimes writing.
Sarah is interested in ephemera and found material that tell us about a place or time, a kind of cultural storytelling that reveal the true nature of a place.
About the residency
Sarah will use her residency to create an analogue photography and mixed media project exploring the built and natural heritage of Paignton and the Picture House. Through photography, Sarah will play with light - the hazy glow of a sunset, the dust-specked beam of a cinema projector - she enjoys seeking out similar shapes and compositions.
This Residency will allow Sarah to develop her ideas around ever changing rural and urban landscapes, and to showcase Paignton in a new light. Revealing the beauty of it’s natural and built heritage as a classic, British coastal town.
As someone who likes to work with several different media, she will use the Projection Room as a photography studio and ever evolving exhibition room.
Come to her Open View on 19th December 5.30-7pm
